Bagels were at the heart of possibly the biggest D.C. food story in 2019: the emergence of Call Your Mother deli as one of the best new restaurants in the country. Lengthy weekend wait times for the wood-fired rounds in Park View illuminated the city’s hunger for quality breakfast carbs, but the shop is hardly the first in the local market to raise the bar for bagels in D.C. Bullfrog Bagels has been growing in reach and popularity for years, and Bethesda Bagels has been serving a respectable round since the late ’80s. In Alexandria, Bagel Uprising has emerged as another cheffed-up shop with farmers market roots. Later this year, Pearl’s Bagels will bring another new option in Mt. Vernon Triangle.
